Personal Statement:
For the past seventeen years, the skills that I’ve accumulated have been honed and developed and are still actively improving day by day.
Maybe it’s because I’m the eldest daughter in my family, but the role of being a leader has always come naturally to me. I tend to take the lead when it comes to group assignments or special clubs within and outside of school. Being able to guide colleagues to success and seeing that all the hard work pays off in the end, thrills me.
There was a special time in my high school career when I was given the opportunity to be at the forefront of the student population. I was able to be the body representative of the voices of the student and the lessons that I’ve gained are definitely worth noting. Not only did it improve my leadership skills and prove to me and everyone around me that being a leader isn’t about demanding and controlling but guiding and following through but it also teaches me the importance of resilience. Often times altercations between my fellow members would ensue and because I am the ‘’president’’ it’s really up to me to alleviate the problem and try to find the best solution. It happens very often that these conflicts would arise but it’s crucial for us to find a common ground and understand each other’s point of view before disregarding it because we want to be right. I have learned how to get back up and continue and come back even stronger. To fix the problem and prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
Not only that, but I have also learned how to empathize with others and it gave me a unique insight into how other people’s mind works. To put me into their shoes before trying to shut them down. Even if their views contrast with mine. That was when the quote ‘’Don’t judge a book by its cover’’ really struck me and I have never viewed people the same way again.
Throughout my whole life, I have learned to be creative, kind and collaborative with everyone. No matter their race, gender, sexuality, skin colour, or any discriminatory feature of that sort. My participation and experience from volunteering and donating to local organisations have showcased team working skills and being a proactive citizen always giving back to the society I am in.
I am optimistic about learning new skills and further experiencing new environments that can challenge me and make me think of ways to overcome those obstacles. I believe that as human beings, as long as we are still living, we will continue to learn new things every single day. Even those who are older in age can and will learn new things and for that reason, I am hopeful to see people around me including myself, grow and cherish the memories that we will make along the way.
Vision statement:
Working in the tech industry has always been an extreme interest of mine. That is why I plan to major in Computer Science for my bachelor's degree. I am very optimistic about what I will learn in school and what I will learn throughout my whole career. I plan to work as a software engineer or a programmer.
